Completed: Shirts for EcoJoia!
With EcoJoia, we used a special printing technique called 'split fountain.' Split Fountain refers to using two or more colors of ink
simultaneously on the same screen, usually one on the right half of the
screen and the other on the left half. When the squeegee is pulled down
the screen, the natural spread of the inks will cause the colors to
blend where they meet, and it creates a really cool effect.
A family owned and operated business, EcoJoia began when Ry Hawley returned from the 2009 Sundance Film Festival after viewing the documentary, "The Cove." The film featured Save Japan Dolphins, an organization which his father belongs and contributes to. When Ry returned to Denver just two days later, he launched a project of charity bracelets to raise money for the Save Japan Dolphins campaign. Since then, EcoJoia has grown, adding 7 more partner organizations and a full social media roster.
EcoJoia believes in selling products made from
environmentally conscious materials, such as certified organic cotton
and earth-friendly dyes for screen printing. EcoJoia carries non-organization specific products in which 20-50% of
the sell price goes into the EcoJoia Donation Fund, which is donated
quarterly to an organization of their choice. EcoJoia is currently making
donations to the Kiva organization in the form of micro-loans.
Micro-lending is a proven method for lifting motivated people out of
poverty and enabling them to help themselves. Micro-lending can lead to
great economic and social impacts, including increases in health care
and decreases in violence and child birth rates for developing
countries.
