It’s far and few between for me to meet an artist with so many mediums. I first met Johnnee though the music collective Gay Sunshine. It wasn’t long before I realized I would see this guy all over the place. He writes, produces, DJs, is starting a silent film project, turning his home into an installation, draws, and he paints. Check him out at http://picasaweb.google.com/johnny.evanofski/ARTARTART
soon you will know him as well as I do.

We have a stable of great young artists who have us print their shirts, either for their lines or companies. Let us know if you’re one of them or if you can recommend any artist for this section. We will soon start to profile some of the artists we serve, both private and corporate.
A report from the US Geological Survey, University of Colorado at Boulder has found the life span of some Western trees (pines, firs and hemlocks) have been cut in half. The likely cause of is climate change due to greenhouse gases. The death rate of these trees in Colorado, California and the Pacific Northwest has more than doubled since 1955 as warmer temperatures have led to less moisture and severe drought, according to a paper published in the journal "Science". Thought for the day: President Obama recently said, "When you walk out of a room, turn off the lights"!
I really don’t like the term“green” so much; I guess it’s better than “environmentally responsible”, whichis what we used as the term when we began to change our business over in 1997.“Green” seems so trendy and I think we’re in a full-blown revolution!
We started by using an entirely different ink system: water based. We used plastisol ink since we started printing apparel (1983). Wow, what a learning curve: it was over a year before we actually knew what we were doing!
Now, every day is a new learning experience of how to be more environmentally responsible (green) in our business. What do you do to make it green and keep it green?
We’re excited about one of our newest clients Fluffy Gnar Research. This company is a new snowboard clothing line that is represented by Brett and Josh. They came to check out the show room, and it turns out that Denver Screen Print & Embroidery is a fantastic fit with their business philosophies. They are working diligently to keep all of their apparel made in the United States. Staying true to their dream has proved extremely successful. Their first order sold out with in three days and have placed two more orders just to keep up with demand. The latest XGames proved to be a huge success. You can find them ripping up the slopes or check them out on line at www.fluffygnar.com
We expect many new items of organic cotton, recycled apparel and fibers, bamboo, etc. It’s a whole new wagon (one we have been on for many years now) and lots of companies are coming onboard, which is good. When we see something that’s worth posting, we’ll putit here, as well as on our “sustainable apparel” page within our website. If you know of some good products we should look at, send them over.
Greenhouse gases are naturally present in the atmosphere and maintain temperatures on Earth that are favorable to life. Too much greenhouse effect, however, leads to warming of the global climate. The emissions given off by an “average” car (CO2 or Carbon Dioxide) is “approximately” 1 pound per mile driven! The quotation marks are added because I couldn’t find exact figures in this report (by Nate Lewis of the California Institute of Technology). I was shocked when I read about the amount of Carbon Dioxide emitted by cars and thought about all those gas-guzzlers on the road out there.
Thought for the day: If you drive a car for work or school, one day a week, don't drive your car: either carpool, use public transportation, ride a bike, walk; just use another mode of transportation other than your car.
La Academia at Denver Inner City Parish (www.dicp.org) is one of our favorite local charities. They’re small but mighty and serve severely “at risk” young people: Over 70% of their graduates attend college. It’s a great urban education program and we send ourover-runs and seconds to their fund raisers each year.
See updates in our 2009 catalogs. We’ll post all the new companies we know we’re going to discover this year as we find them an check them out.
